Ava Denton

Originally from Macomb, Michigan, Ava's love for sports began on the fields and courts of her high school, where she competed in both basketball and softball. That passion led her to Central Michigan University, where she pursued a unique path in athletics — not as a coach, but as a behind-the-scenes leader.

Starting as a freshman volunteer manager for the CMU Women's Basketball team, Ava quickly earned larger roles through her dedication and initiative, eventually becoming head manager. When new staff arrived, she stepped into a dual role as Graduate Assistant and Director of Basketball Operations (DOBO) while completing CMU's accelerated master's program. Upon graduation, she transitioned into the full-time DOBO position, continuing to shape the program's culture and logistics with strategy and heart.

Beyond basketball, Ava served as Vice President of "The Corporation," which was a project her class was assigned during her time in CMU's sports administration graduate program. She also organizes the annual Hoops for Hunger initiative for women's basketball and works as a Teaching Assistant for Dr. Ballou's sports statistics classes where she mentors students and models leadership.

Ava is a proud advocate for CMU Athletics, especially its student-driven structure. "I didn't even know this position existed," she says. "But CMU gave me the chance to lead, grow, and build a career in sports. You just don't get this kind of hands-on experience at bigger schools."
