Spencer O'Neil

Originally from Milford, Michigan, Spencer has always had a deep passion for sports. Growing up playing multiple sports, he continued his baseball career at Central Michigan University as a member and leader of the CMU Club Baseball team. His competitive spirit and love for the game made pursuing a career in the sports industry a natural path.

Spencer earned his degree in Sport Management with a concentration in professional sales from CMU in 2023. During his time on campus, he was actively involved in several student organizations that helped shape his career, most notably the Sport Management Association (SMA). His involvement with SMA provided valuable networking opportunities—such as trips and the annual Sport Management Association Conference (SMAC)—that played a key role in building his professional foundation.

Spencer's college experience was rich with hands-on learning. From a work-study position under a high school athletic director, to a capstone project alongside Amy Bunting and Morey Courts organizing a major fundraising event, to an impactful internship with the Traverse City Pit Spitters ticketing team—each experience helped prepare him for the demands of the industry.

Since graduating, Spencer has worked in several roles across the sports business landscape and currently serves as an Account Executive with the Michigan Panthers. He credits much of his success to hard work and the strong professional network built through his time at CMU. One key example includes landing an interview with the Detroit Lions ticketing department through a connection from his Club Baseball team.

For Spencer, staying motivated during challenging times comes down to keeping perspective: "There's always something to look forward to, no matter how small. Once you figure out what that is, it becomes much easier to stay grounded and focused." Spencer continues to stay connected with fellow alumni and credits CMU's Sport Management program for equipping him with the skills, experiences, and relationships that drive his career forward.
